Coaches Bios

About Coach Derek Dyson: 

In addition to the 03 Girls Orange, Derek is also currently the coach for the 97 Girls Orange with Waldorf Soccer Club and the Head Coach for the men's program at CSM. After a 9 year tenure as Assistant Coach at CSM, Derek took over as Head Coach for the 2011 season leading the team to a National Tournament appearance and a ranking of 7th in the country. 

A McDonough High School Alum ('94), Derek has played extensively locally and abroad in various countries throughout Europe.  He played for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for one year, and Kutztown University, PA., for three years, where he earned his degree in Business Management.  Derek has also played professionally with the Reading Rage and the Eastern Shore Sharks. 

He has represented Maryland in many State, Regional, and National Futsal tournaments.  He continues his playing career in the 1st Division of the Washington International Soccer League.  He is the Head Coach for the U-14 Waldorf Wings and is also involved with training young players individually throughout the Southern MD community. 

He was the assistant coach for McDonough JV Boys in 1999 and the head coach for the McDonough Varsity Girls from 2000-2001.

About Coach Megan McKinney:

In addition to the 03 Girls Orange, Megan is also the coach of the 97 Girls Orange with Waldorf Soccer Club and the 01 Girls White with Maryland United FC. Prior to this, Megan was the assistant coach with the College of Southern Maryland Women’s team and also had a successful stint as head coach of the Men’s Soccer Program at McDonough High School. Megan was involved with the McDonough program for 6 years culminating in Coach of the Year honors for the 2010 fall season. She has also coached various youth teams and has been involved with soccer for the Special Olympics.
Originally from Philadelphia, Megan prepped at Little Flower in Pennsylvania where she earned All-Conference honors 3 times during her high school career. She continued her playing career on scholarship at Kutztown University before transferring and playing on scholarship at CSM for a season. Following her time at CSM, McKinney represented Maryland at the State, Regional and National Futsal Tournaments. She also represented the United States Women’s National Futsal Team and received three international caps. Megan graduated from Towson University with a degree in elementary education and currently teaches at Arthur Middleton Elementary in Charles County.
